Are you looking to shed some pounds? If so, you’re not alone. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third of American adults are obese. And, every year, millions of people go on diets in hopes of losing weight.
The bad news is that most diets don’t work. In fact, a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that nearly 80 percent of people who lose weight on a diet regain all or some of the weight within a year.
The good news is that there are some proven strategies that can help you lose weight and keep it off. In this blog post, I’ll share 8 of them.
1. Cut Back on Refined Carbs
Refined carbs include sugars and grains that have been stripped of their fiber and other nutrients. Examples include white bread, white rice, and pastries.
Studies show that refined carbs can spike blood sugar levels greatly. So try to avoid it.
2. Start eating less calories.
The best way is to start reducing your calorie intake by 500–1000 calories per day. If you do not want to follow a strict diet plan, then reduce your calorie intake gradually over time.
3. Take more fruits and vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables have low calorie count compared to meats and they are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that will help in keeping you feel full. You should eat at least five servings of fruit and vegetables throughout the week.
4. Try to avoid alcohol.
Alcohol is high in calories and its consumption may lead to obesity. However, if you want to maintain a good body weight, it’s advisable to cut down on drinking alcoholic beverages.
5. Do some exercise.
Exercise is necessary for any person, especially those who need to shed pounds. Regular physical activity will boost metabolism, causing your body to burn more calories than usual. Your metabolism rate increases while exercising and this helps to burn fat faster.
6. Avoid junk food.
Junk foods are considered unhealthy although they are highly calorific. To stay fit and healthy, try to limit yourself to only consuming nutritious foods.
7. Drink plenty of water.
Drinking enough water is important. Not only does it keep your skin looking fresh and glowing, but it also keeps your body feeling clean. Drinking water before each meal and at regular intervals throughout the day will keep you full longer.
8. Set realistic goals.
You might not achieve your ideal weight overnight, but setting small achievable goals will help motivate you to stick with your diet plan. You can break down your goal into smaller steps so that the journey towards achieving your ideal weight becomes much easier.
This’s all. Believe in yourself and start making your day by following these tips.
